I Am A Lifelong Learner

My favorite of the 23 things was Blogger and Widgets. I had used Live Journal, which is a pain, and once I had discovered how to add widgets, I couldn't stop. This blog is fun and addicting.

The 23 things exercise was educational and entertaining. There are 2 things I would change: 1. Make it open ended. Sometimes, there are better sites than the ones we're given. 2. This started out great, but then summer started, and I didn't have time to breathe much less use the computer for anything other than looking up summer reading lists. The majority of my staff had to drop out. Even I'm doing half the work on the last day.

Overdrive

Overdrive is completely useless. It doesn't matter what titles it has, it matters more what it doesn't have: Twilight, Harry Potter, The Firm, My Sister's Keeper, and White Fang. Like I said, useless.

Podcasts

Sadly, I only trust ITunes for my podcasts and I subscribe to anything LOST related. So, while a million other podcasts exist, the only reliable ones I've found are on ITunes.

YouTube

I'm one of those losers who spend hours every night watching other people's videos on YouTube and never upload my own. That's because I don't own a video camera. Yes, my digital and my cell both have video capabilities, but that would require there to be something worth video recording. So, I have over 200 videos in my favorites, and I watch them over and over. My favorites right now are anything to do with Ryan Wolfe of CSI: Miami and Justin and Rebecca of Brothers and Sisters.

Myxer

Myxer has quickly become my favorite go to site for free ringtones. It's because of Myxer that I learned how to extract data from my text messages! I even learned how to bluetooth songs to my friends!!

Zoho Writer

Zoho Writer is very similar to Google Docs, which I love. Google Docs seems easier. I mean, how the heck do you do a spreadsheet on Zoho? Anyone?

PBCLS WIKI

The PBCLS WIKI is easy and fun. I got to see what everyone else's likes were.

Wikis

Wikis are great for coordinating events with large groups of people. They're also great for analyzing LOST episodes.

Learning from LOST

Check out this article:

http://www.hrworld.com/features/lessons-managers-learn-lost-051508/

It relates management techniques and LOST. It's true that everything I learned, I learned from watching LOST.

Web 2.0

I'm a huge fan of Web 2.0. My favorites? Google Docs, RSS feeds, Wikis, and Widgets!!!! Flickr I could take or leave. YouTube is my guilty pleasure. I'm not in my 20s anymore, so why do I spend hours watching amateur music videos set to scenes from LOST?

Technorati

Technorati is fun. I immediately searched for all things LOST, and read a hilarious post. I would've found it anyway without Technorati (since I peruse the site often), but here it is...

Del.icio.us

Del.icio.us is easy to use for all your bookmarking needs, but iGoogle is easier and prettier. I don't really need them, though. I remember the URL's for all the important sites I need, like... spoilerslost.blogspot.com, televisionwithoutpity.com, abc.com, lostpedia. com... etc.

Sold Out

So I got approved for vacation days to go to Comic Con. I booked the airfare. I booked the hotel. I even bought tickets to see Phantom while there. The last thing I needed to do was buy tickets to the Con. And the first words I see on the Comic Con website were, in bright red, SOLD OUT. ----- That is, the four-day tickets were sold out. Fortunately, I was able to still buy tickets for individual days. So, I'm going to Comic Con!

RSS Feeds

I'm a user of Rojo for RSS news feeds, and I signed up to Google News alerts by e-mail, but Bloglines works too. It was easy to sign up for anything related to Lost, which I, of course, did. I also picked PC mag b/c it's important to stay on top of anything tech related. Anybody know of anything else useful out there?

Technology

I wouldn't be the LOST fan I am today without the newest technology. If I didn't get to sit around all day and night reading message boards, my RSS feeds, watching LOST videos on YouTube, and streaming the episodes on ABC.com, I might actually have to go out and get a life. Thank G-d for technology.

How to Survive Traveling When You Forget Everything

1. Plan to go to San Diego and Tijuana and forget your:

sunglasses (Monique)
passport (Monique)
digital camera (both)
jacket (Monique)
comfortable shoes (Karyn)
bathing suit (both)
aleve (both)

2. Go to Macy's in San Diego to replace the sunglases, jacket, and shoes.
3. Have friend overnight the passport.
4. Die with a headache in Tijuana without the Aleve despite the 500 farmacias.

I'm dragging Monique back to San Diego in July for the Con. Hopefully, we will have learned quite a few things, and that trip will be more organized. I hope.

Spoilers are bad

It is now time to stay away from all message boards and, especially, DarkUfo's site. The latter has revealed the name of the person in the coffin, and since I don't want a repeat of last year's debacle, I'm staying away.
I'm the idiot who read all about the flashforward and thought it was just a)speculation or b)a simple part of the plot. I had no idea that the flashforward was THE CLIFFHANGER. So, I went and told everyone in advance, and not a single person was left with their jaw open at the end. We were just perplexed as to what the jawdropping cliffhanger that TV Guide raved about was.
I promise, this year, I will be as surprised as everyone else.

This is so much Fun!!

So here I am, blogging away on a Saturday night as the child I babysit for is sleeping. I'm avoiding cleaning the portable phone that she dropped orange silly putty on. The internet says to use WD-40. Are they kidding?

I'm listening to Johnny Pacar sing "I won't stand alone." It was written for his tv series Flight 29 down, which I've always likened to the teen version of LOST. I bought the books for my teens and forced them to read them.
This song totally fits LOST.

Blogging and the library

Since all my kids at the library love to read each other's blogs, why wouldn't they love to read mine? I can make more LOST fans! Also, they're always clamoring for book recommendations from me, and they always want to discuss Gossip Girl and the Hills with me, so this blog is definitely gonna be fun. My teen buddy, Cate, sitting next to me right now (well, she's actually sitting ON my desk) thinks I'm hysterical! Here's a pic of Cate and me.

LOST in the Library

While viewing the 7 and a half habits of highly successful lifelong learners, I thought about how I have already learned all of these habits from LOST. You can't be a stick in the mud and love LOST. I have to embrace new and crazy things! This blog should be fun. Here we go.

Habit #1: Beginning with the end in mind
My parents stopped watching LOST because they figured the LOSTies would never get off the island, that the show would never end. The season 3 finale proved them wrong.

Habit #2: Accept Responsibility for your own learning
I ask no one to watch LOST for me like my friends, Monique and Jen, do. I do my own work. (after I got busted for cheating in college)

Habit #3: View problems as challenges
I like to compare myself to Jack. We both are always trying to fix things. We both thrive in chaos. My friend, Jeff, once told me that he likes to know all about the plot upfront so there won't be any surprises. Where's the fun in that?

Habit #4: Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner.
I was so eager to learn about LOST that I flew my friend, Karen, and myself out to San Diego last July just to hear what the producers had to say about the upcoming season.

Habit #5: Create your own learning toolbox.
I have purchased all the LOST books and DVD's, so ask me anything! Lostpedia is awesome too.

Habit #6: Use technology to your advantage.
I created a spreadsheet on the characters and published it on Google Docs.

Habit #7: Teach/Mentor others.
I have taught over 2 dozen people all about LOST, and they have learned to love it too. I try to teach Zerrie, but she just won't listen!

Habit #7 1/2: Play!
I do play. I play the LOST dvd's. I play the LOST experience. I play the LOST soundtrack. I play the LOST board game. I play with the LOST action figures (not really, they're still in their boxes).
